Teesside Airport
About Teesside Airport
A multi-million pound Partnership recognising the
vital role which Teesside International Airport will play in the
economic regeneration of the Tees Valley has been agreed between
the Airport and Regional Development Agency, One NorthEast.
The £6million Partnership comes as a further
boost to the Airport after the announcement by Deputy Prime Minister
John Prescott of the go-ahead for a £4.7million road improvement
scheme on the A66 at Long Newton.
A major feasibility study will assess the needs
and demands of the Airport for the next 30 years, as part of the
Partnership plan. Other elements will include further access improvements
as well as investment in the airport infrastructure, such as apron
and taxiway areas.
The news was described by Airport Chairman Councillor
Ken Hall as "The start of a new era when One NorthEast,
the Airport's local authority shareholders, other local agencies
and its management and staff all work together to ensure that
Teesside International remains as one of the UK's most rapidly
expanding regional airports."
Explains airport Managing Director Hugh Lang "This
Partnership, which we have been working on for several months,
has been formed in recognition of the crucial role which the Airport
will play in the regeneration of the overall local economy. The
Airport has made enormous strides forward in recent years, this
agreement paves the way for continuing that trend."
Adds One NorthEast Chairman, Doctor John Bridge
"Teesside Airport's success is essential for the future
prosperity of the Tees Valley. This investment demonstrates our
commitment to work with the Airport to develop its potential and
contribute to the economic and social regeneration of the area."
